I got put onto the William Girl's Soccer interview by pure luck, I was in the room when Muench thought of it and he put me on it. It was a story that was important to me because I sit during the pledge of allegiance at Monday assembly. We had to drive an hour on a cold Sunday morning and realized when we got down there that we didn't have enough SD cards for our equipment and had to hunt around town for one. But we found one and we filmed some B roll around campus. We then went to the game and got to set up in the press section of the game, we looked official enough that everyone let us walk right on by. Then the game began and they didn't do the pledge of allegiance, the main event that we drove an hour to film. It was a disappointment but we rolled with the punches and filmed the game until it was time to interview. I had never interviewed anyone before, we hadn't even started the interview unit in cinematography yet. So I was flying by the seat of my pants. I wrote out all my questions in advance and memorized them so I wouldn't have to be looking at the whole time. I ended up mostly ad libbing my questions because what the people said took me in a different direction than what I thought the interview would go. I also had to adjust questions on the spot because the coach in particular didn't respond well to the questions I was intending to ask. I got to learn about sound and what went into conducting a real interview out in the world. It's definitely a lot harder than it looks.
